Emotional Intelligence Workshop

This is a comprehensive workshop designed for employees who have recently transitioned into a People Manager position. The goal of the workshop is to equip managers with effective strategies to cultivate self-awareness and empathy within their teams. Through interactive exercises and thought-provoking discussions, participants gain practical skills to enhance communication, resolve conflicts, and build stronger relationships, fostering a positive and productive work environment. This workshop is part of a larger Manager Training program that I developed alongside the Director of People Development.

Project Overview

A few years after our Manager Training initially went live, I had gained a lot of insight into adult learning techniques, color theory, and design. I knew that, although the program was successful, there were areas for improvement. I had recently designed an emotional intelligence workshop for the sales team, and through that, I had a lot of research I could draw from. This is a topic that I am particularly passionate about, and I volunteered to design an entirely new workshop based on the research I had.

Process

I began by reviewing the old slides and flagging the information I believed should be retained. I removed all the slides containing non-relevant information and began incorporating my own research. I planned the flow of information, what I wanted to include, and where to include group exercises. Once I had the layout finalized, I started creating the final slides. I aimed to ensure that this workshop provided practical techniques and real-life examples for improving emotional intelligence, rather than just definitions. I incorporated various interactive components and design techniques I had learned in recent years to make it visually appealing and in line with our brand. It ultimately took me two days to fully develop the workshop to a point where I felt comfortable conducting a test run.

Result

The final result was a success. After I went live with the workshop, I was requested by the Director of People Development to run this workshop for a wider audience since the information was applicable and relevant to everyone in the workplace. This included facilitating a session to the leadership team. In addition to the workshop’s broader success, I continued to facilitate this workshop for our bi-annual People Manager Training.
