Project Overview
Tableau is a data visualization software that, when used correctly, helps users analyze and present data in a visually compelling and interactive way. The Data team reached out to me in April 2022 for assistance in providing comprehensive training for all employees on how to navigate the Tableau platform. Prior to this training, the only resources available to employees were text-heavy wiki articles written by the Data team. The Senior Director of Data Analytics initiated this effort after recognizing the potential benefits to the company, including increased operational efficiency. The goal of this training was to ensure that all Tableau users possess a thorough understanding of platform navigation.
Process
I began by creating a list of the most important topics to be covered in this training. I requested a Tableau license to gain access to the platform and started exploring the site. I utilized various resources available to me, including our internal knowledge base, as well as Tableau FAQs, to familiarize myself with the tool's navigation. Once I had a solid understanding of the basics, I used Miro to storyboard the layout of the training. I concentrated on how to divide the topics into sections and what content to include.
After storyboarding, I created a blank project in Articulate Rise and inputted the different topics and rough drafts of the content. I leveraged Storyline to craft engaging GIFs that served as visual aids to complement the content. This combination of Tableau's powerful data visualization capabilities and the dynamic storytelling features of Storyline allowed me to create compelling visual narratives to aid the learning process.
Result
From the initial consultation meeting to the live release, this project was completed in about four weeks. Before its live release, the eLearning went through beta testing with the sales team. I chose to test the product with this specific team because they already had Tableau licenses but didn't use Tableau in their daily work. I believed I would receive the most accurate feedback from learners who did not have prior working knowledge of the platform.
This project received exceptionally positive feedback, both from the learners and from the Data Analytics team. The positive reception of this training ultimately inspired a more advanced Tableau program that I developed alongside the Director of Data Analytics, consisting of a six-week-long course that a cohort of learners completed, culminating in a capstone project. It is now a requirement for all employees who request a Tableau license to complete this training before gaining access to the platform.

This sample showcases Storyline's Step-by-Step feature, which transforms a recorded task (creating a collection) into an interactive user activity. In addition to the steps, I inserted recorded demonstrations at relevant points where user participation isn't required.
